1. SEO Focused Blog Posts
Although there is no particular order, I think my favourite is this one. In my line of work, I produce a LOT of stuff. By blogging my podcast episodes, I’ve published at least one blog every week for the past four years. Since the beginning of the show, I have posted about every episode. Early ones were really brief, but as time went on, they became longer and more strategic, which I’ll discuss next (keep scrolling!).
To increase the traffic to my website, I was already “blogging consistently” because I produced a lot of content. But in 2023, we’ve been concentrating especially on writing “SEO blog posts” this year. Which basically indicates that we are crafting a blog post to rank for a particular phrase! In order to rank first for that particular search, these blogs are written very carefully.
Our podcast blog posts are separate from these blog posts. I don’t create podcast episode outlines with a certain keyword position in mind. The purpose of my podcast blog articles is primarily to give readers a method to read the information instead of just listening to it.
Hey, I absolutely LOVE doing them. Writing blog entries that are SEO-focused is a great challenge for me. There is a lot that goes into it, from figuring out what to even try to rank for (and making sure there is search volume there! ), to looking at competitor blogs, to arranging the layout of it all. After all that, I still need to make it extremely normal and understandable (I want to write my blog entries for humans, but I also want robots to enjoy them!).
We currently aim to produce a number of them a quarter at my business, and we even just published one last week that is already showing up on the top page of searches. Enjoyable to watch it function!
I strongly advise it if you don’t already implement it in your own company. As what you write continues to benefit you over time, this is a fantastic method to truly utilise your content efforts. It’s not “one and done” like a lot of the other content that we entrepreneurs produce! And it works because the majority of new customers find me on Google before buying a template. So this is a way to increase traffic to my website that DIRECTLY affects sales!
2. To increase website traffic, make longer podcast shownotes that are entirely separate from the audio.
Oh hi! You are currently reading that. The “blog post” for the episode is just a sales pitch to listen with some pertinent links because many podcasters use their podcast blog posts as a place to have the same thing as they have on Apple or Spotify. I’m done now! And, wow, I TOTALLY see why someone would do this! It’s a lot simpler. To help you produce a TRUE blog post for each episode, it takes a tonne of effort (and sometimes even the assistance of a team!).
But WE go through with it, and it’s worthwhile. A content writer might be a fantastic first or second hiring for a podcaster. This is why:
- It encourages visitors to stay on my website longer and boosts time spent there. Even those who choose to listen to the episode on audio may prefer to read about it so they won’t have to take notes and/or can refer to it afterwards.
- This is a fantastic method to make use of your content. Because my podcast and blog are independent of one another, we now have more venues to find the same information that I provide, the audio. One can read the blog and never pay attention and still succeed.
- In contrast to brief show notes, it improves your Google ranking. These brief show notes, which are recycled from Apple or Spotify, are probably less than 500 words long and have little chance of ever ranking on Google.
3. Uploading to YouTube guest interviews from my podcast
I promised to be honest if the verdict was still out on some of these strategies, and for me, YouTube is the place to be. However, I do think it is worthwhile to give it a shot at this time in my business! To determine if it is the correct platform for you (with any of these strategies to increase website traffic), you must first determine what stage of your business you are in.
It made sense for me to try because I wanted to improve both the traffic to my website AND the way I leveraged my content this year. I had originally intended to post every episode of my podcast to YouTube. I quickly altered my mind, though, and decided to keep it to interviews only. For solo episodes, I find that speaking to the microphone and glancing at my notes makes me feel more at ease than being on camera. Since I would have to prepare for it each time, I thought doing it every time would be a hassle.
Regarding podcast interviews, I was already videotaping them (I use and adore Riverside, so it hasn’t been all that much extra work for me). Yes, there are a few extra processes for my team that took some time to set up, but now everything goes really easily! Additionally, now that I have a YouTube channel, I receive three bits of content rather than just one. I get to make a new blog entry, share the YouTube video, and upload the audio to the podcast.
In the end, only time will tell if YouTube will turn out to be a successful platform for me. I don’t really think I’ve had any “sales” from it as of yet. Having said that, I am aware that it’s a lengthy game because films that were posted many years ago can still trend and have a lot of views. As a result, I am still experimenting and learning what will work and what won’t. Follow along!
4. Accepting collaborations, summits, and webinars
Have you thought of taking part in online summits or webinars to build your brand and visibility? However, I think it’s vital to consider whether it makes sense for you and your business goals (like I said previously about Youtube!). These can be fantastic ways to reach new audiences and drive traffic to your website.
For instance, I chose to decline similar possibilities during my prior maternity leave since they didn’t suit my needs at the time or my season of life. Though I still say no a lot, I was interested in doing more of it in a very smart manner this year (I am saying yes a lot more this year!).
Having said that, I know some of you are asking whether it is worthwhile to take part in summits and other cooperative endeavours.
For me, these visibility initiatives really increased traffic, but ultimately, I believe it depends on your objectives and the specific summit or webinar you’re interested in. Before agreeing to anything, be sure to consider whether you are happy with the conditions and ask questions about what you would get from it.
For instance, the summit I attended was geared towards designers, and although it WAS worthwhile, it also required a lot of work. I had to prepare two freebies for separate audiences (one for VIPs and one for free participants), make the slides, write the outline, and record a 45-minute presentation of new content. I also put in a lot of time emailing my email list, even hiring my copyright to create emails with content for it. It was a lot of work, but I think it strengthened Booked Out Designer’s upcoming debut and undoubtedly put me in front of more ideal individuals!
5. Concentrating on Pinterest to Increase Traffic to My Website
You probably already know that Pinterest is a fantastic way to increase the number of people who visit your website, particularly if what you do has a significant visual component. with website layouts, like me!
The strategy I’m using this year is a little different; I’m making it more of a fun personal hobby and putting additional lifestyle information on top of business content. Some of my pins have gained a little bit of notoriety (this article on Colin’s nursery has performed exceptionally well on Pinterest!). Secondly, I want this lifestyle material to generate affiliate revenue for me through Like to Know It.
