Today, I want to give you a quick suggestion concerning your sales page and something you should probably stop saying there. You may be harming potential customers’ experiences with what you’re saying, which is also a bad marketing practise. It’s a quick adjustment that will have an effect on your business yet only takes a few minutes! This advice was given to me when my copywriter, Emily, pointed out a mistake I had made. For instance, there might be several buttons on a sales page that customers can click to sign up for a free trial, subscribe on a recurring basis, purchase your item, or inquire about working with you.
You need to stop using the phrase “Buy Now” on your sales page. Do not waste valuable copywriting space on this call to action because it is not the most successful by ANY MEANS.
There are three reasons to refrain from using the phrase “buy now.”
- When you use the phrase “Buy Now” on your sales page, you put the emphasis on what the customer is giving you rather than what they are getting in return. It is preferable for the entire experience to utilise language that is more concentrated on the result they will encounter when they make a purchase.
- By using the phrase “Buy Now,” you are reminding them that they must spend money in order to receive the results you are offering. This may make shopping seem like a bad thing to do.
- There are more effective ways to motivate someone to act than this; it is boring and not strategic. When there are more effective approaches, you are stating the obvious.
How I Discovered to Avoid This Error
While she was reviewing the material I had written for my Showit sales page templates, her copywriter suggested in her Loom feedback video that I replace the ‘Buy Now’ buttons with something more aspirational. I realised that it was useless and a waste of valuable copywriting space to constantly remind customers that they are parting with their money. It goes without saying that we should make the most of every inch of text that we can get a reader to read about our product.

It’s crucial to emphasise to customers that they receive their offer and all of its components as soon as they make a purchase. Consider how you may use the phrases “now” and “today” in your CTA.
Putting the words in the customer’s voice also helps. I want the course, for instance, or “get MY discount,” etc. You may use the language that surrounds your button to promote your marketing efforts by keeping in mind that it is also a part of your call to action.
